Quick answer

Win your way up the street

La Corrida is a domino journey: you play one-against-one tables up a barrio's street to tonight's boss, carrying hearts and pesos from stop to stop and collecting tricks on the way. Lose every heart and the night is over.

La Corrida turns a night of Dominican domino into a journey. You walk a barrio's street from table to table, one rival at a time, toward the boss who runs it. These are the basics every night starts with.

01.

Your night

Win your way up the street to tonight's boss. Each stop is a rival's table, a tough rival, the colmado, a rest or a street event. Your hearts and pesos carry from stop to stop; lose every heart and the night is over.

—

Pick your road by your hearts: a tough rival pays more, but costs more when you lose.

—

Rest when you're low. A boss is best of three hands.

02.

A table

One hand of dominoes, you against one rival, 7 tiles each. Nothing fits? Draw from the pile until something does or the pile runs out, then pass. First one out of tiles wins; if nobody can play, lower pips win.

—

Read the rival's special move on their card before you sit down.

—

Heavy tiles cost you in a tranque: shed them when it's safe.

03.

Counting one against one

Each number is on 7 tiles. With no partner, every pass is your rival's, and a pass rules out both open numbers from their hand.

—

Track one important number first, not all 28.

—

Keep a number your rival passed on showing: they may have to pass again.

04.

Tricks and supplies

Tricks stay with you all night and go off on their own. Supplies work once, at the start of your turn, before you play or draw.

—

The Escudo stops a boss's next trick: save it for the boss.

—

A trick that fits your hand beats a rare one that doesn't.

How do I open Nagua and Los Heights?

Clear a journey to open Nagua. Los Heights opens once you clear a journey on Picante 1.

How is a La Corrida table different from a normal game?

It is one hand of one-against-one domino with 7 tiles each, and each rival has a special move. Bosses play best of three hands and bend one rule of the hand.
