This page is about organized Dominican domino: the crowd records, titles and medals the country has put in the books. It collects the ones we could check, and says who reported each one.

01.

3,344 people at the same time

Guinness World Records has a category for the largest number of people playing dominoes at once. A 2016 Guinness news story about another Dominican record names Santo Domingo as the place of that domino record.

El Nuevo Diario gives the size and the year: 3,344 people in 2012, citing federation president Luis Alberto Ramírez. The paper's list of Dominican Guinness records was last updated in January 2021.

One caution. Records get broken, and we could not confirm whether this one still stands. When you share it, say that the Dominican Republic set it in 2012, not that it holds it today.

02.

World champions in San José, 2011

The Federación Internacional de Dominó (FID) runs a world championship for national teams. Its ninth edition was played in San José, Costa Rica, from 6 to 11 June 2011, with 19 countries taking part.

El Día reported that the Dominican Republic won it. The winning pair was Claudio Uribe and Joaquín Martínez. Venezuela finished second and Curaçao third.

That was tournament play. Under the FID rulebook, players keep silent during a hand and make no gestures, which is not how the corner game sounds.

03.

Three silvers at the 2024 Bolivarian Games

Domino is also on the program of the Bolivarian Games. According to El Nuevo Diario, the Dominican team took three silver medals at the Ayacucho 2024 Games, with the domino events played in Lima.

One of those silvers went to Joaquín Martínez Herrera, whom the paper calls "el 11 veces Campeón Mundial" (the 11-time world champion). That count of titles is the paper's; we have not found a second source for it.

04.

The federation behind the numbers

Organized Dominican domino has a national body: the Federación Dominicana de Dominó, called Fedodo or Fededodo. A 2018 El Nuevo Diario report says it was set up on 17 December 1972 and incorporated in 1974.

The same 2018 report counts about 4,000 registered players in 25 associations. In 2022 Diario Libre reported the third Mundial Dominó Santo Domingo, with US$30,000 in prizes.

05.

Records and the everyday table

The records above come from organized events with published rules. The everyday game has its own rules, and they change from table to table.

FichaFlow is built around the everyday partnership game, with a table's own settings for targets and bonuses.
